Greasepaint Anonymous

Greasepaint Anonymous is a performance based theatre company – established in 1985 to assist young talented people into the professional world of entertainment.

By giving students many opportunities in major productions and “in house” projects it gives them an excellent basis to enter the profession (if they wish) by gaining the valuable experience they need through a stimulating and welcoming environment.   All of the director, musical directors and choreographers are experience professionals working in mainstream theatre, television and film – who all bring their expertise to the Company.

The Company runs a number of workshops, classes, productions and events during the course of the year – many of which are held at the Church.

Church Services

Services of worship and praise are held every Sunday morning at 10.30 am.

Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month and everyone is welcome to partake.

As we have a strong tradition of uniformed organisations in the church, some of our best attended services are our regular Parade Services, where we welcome young people, our Brownies, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and their parents.

We are grateful to our roster of organists who ably keep our choral contribution going and each Sunday, flowers are donated to remember celebrate past and present friends and events of celebration.

Refreshments are served following the service in the Church that gives us an opportunity to have a chat – and the opportunity to say hello to any new faces.

5th Southgate Group – Cubs

Available for both boys and girls between the age of eight and ten and a half, the Group meets on Friday evenings from 18.15 to 19.45. During September to May they meet in the Waterhouse Hall; during May to July, weather permitting, they meet at the Scout Field in Fords Grove.

During a Pack meeting children are divided into Sixes, play games where they learn how to be a team player, earn activity badges that cover a wide spectrum of interests.

We take part in district activities like swimming galas and sports days; we hold two camps a year with the Scouts – a parent and child weekend and a week camp for children only during the summer holiday. At the end of the summer term the Group holds a BBQ for children in the Beavers, Cubs & Scouts along with their parents and siblings.

During the year we also take part in fundraising activities.

Lesley Peters is the Cub Scout Leader with Colin Dickenson, the Assistant Cub Scout Leader and they are assisted by five young leaders, all of whom are very competent instructors.

Compton Players

The Compton Players is a small and friendly amateur drama group.   We have won a number of awards over the years from the Barnet Drama Festival including Best Director, Best Actress, Best Design and The Comedy Award.

We always welcome new members from those who would like to act to those interested in back stage jobs including set design and construction, stage management, props, costumes, continuity and even making the tea – everyone welcome!   There are plenty of opportunity to get involved – all we want is your enthusiasm and commitment.

We produce two plays per year, usually in March/April and November, a mix of comedy, drama, farce and murder mysteries.  We rehearse on Monday and Thursday evenings in the Waterhouse Hall at the back of the Church at 8pm.

Recent productions include The Actress and Prepare To Meet Thy Tomb, both of which sold out to critical acclaim!
